Getting your Pond Ready for Spring
Spring is right around the corner, so with a little maintenance, some helpful hints and the right products you can be sure that your pond will stay pristine and healthy throughout the warm months ahead.
Spring Pond Care 101
• Remove the pond cover and any debris, drain half way and then refill with hose water. (city water requires a treatment of stress coat for complete chlorine removal)
• When replanting aquatic foliage in your pond, be certain to use a soil that’s specifically designed to benefit the overall health and growth of aquatic plants.
• Hook-up all pumps, check the water intake and filters to make sure there are no leaks, everything is free of debris and is running as it should. Replace all filter material annually.
• Check all bulbs and the quartz sleeve.
• Fertilize with plant tabs which are great for water lilies, bog plants and lotus flowers.
• Add the recommended dose of both Microlift Spring Cleaner and Microlift PL.
• For exceptional water clarity, use Pristine Pond.
Spring Checklist
1} Microlift PL: adds a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria to your pond. This product works in conjunction with your filter to help prevent algae build up and green water.
2} Microlift Spring Cleaner: breaks down harmful waste, leaves, and sludge on the bottom of the pond. Acts as an “underwater compost bin.”
3} Stress Coat: is all about the fish! This product removes chlorine, adds a necessary slime coating and promotes healing due to stress on the fish during water replacement.
4} Pristine Pond: is an all organic ingredient for your pond that removes fish-unfriendly contaminates such as phosphates, ammonia and nitrates.
5} Pondzime with Barley: breaks down under the water’s surface to aid in the removal of debris, kills algae and clarifies the water.
Test Kits
Using a test kit on a monthly basis will be the most valuable asset to keeping your pond water, plants and fish healthy throughout the season.
