Homestead Gardens has gone back to its farming roots. If you visited us lately, you may have noticed next to the little white house our new produce tent filled with farm-fresh seasonal produce.
When Homestead Gardens first moved to Davidsonville in 1975, it more resembled a farmers market than the lifestyle center of today. Fields overflowing with corn, watermelon, canteloupe, cucumbers, beans, squash and other crops sat next to the roadside market, ready to sell to passersby.
Over the years, Homestead Gardens has grown into one of the country’s leading independent gardens centers. While we have never completely lost touch with our farmstand beginnings, our ventures in growing fresh produce have taken a decidedly different turn. After hearing repeated customer requests for more local produce, last year we dedicated one of our farms here in Davidsonville solely to growing fresh fruits and vegetables. Everything we sell is picked fresh daily and sold under the white tent at Homestead Gardens.
